Four container terminals operate in the Port of Constantza with a
throughput that has registered an ascendant trend over the last 10
years. The terminals are operated by Socep, Umex, APM Terminals and
Constantza South Container Terminal.
A marked tendency of containerisation and the steady growth of the
container traffic in the Port of Constantza has required the
development of new container handling facilities.
Recently a new container terminal became operational in the south
part of Constantza Port-Pier IIS, being designed to allow the
accommodation of Post-Panamax container ships and undertake an
annual capacity of 325,000 TEU's in the first stage and up to
1,000,000 TEU's in the final stage. The terminal is operated by
Constantza South Container Terminal.
SOCEP Container Terminal - provides the berthing space of 350 m,
12,5 m depth. The terminal is connected to railways and equipped
with 3 ship-to-shore cranes of 40 tons capacity, 27 fork-lift trucks
and other facilities. Recently two new reach-stackers have been
delivered to the Terminal, one of them dedicated to handling empty
containers. Storage facilities for reefer containers has also been
developed to 60 units capacity and are planned for further
development.
UMEX Container Terminal provides the berthing space of 220 m length,
11,7 m depth, the terminal is connected to railways. UMEX is
equipped with 2 ship-to-shore cranes of 20 and 6 tons capacity, 1
mobile crane of 250 tons capacity, 1 rail-mounted crane. Recently
new mobile harbour crane (Liebherr LHM 320 unit) has been put into
operation.
APM Constantza Terminal is the first terminal project of its kind in
the Eastern European region of the A.P. Møller Group provides the
berthing space of 238 m length,10 m depth . The terminal is located
in the Constantza-South Free Zone , is equipped with 1Libherr Mobile
Crane LHM 400
